PC Men's Soccer team season comes to end with heartbreaking 7-6 defeat in penalty kicks

The Parkland Men's Soccer team battled cold and windy conditions and rival Illinois Central College thru 110 minutes of soccer and seven rounds of penalty kicks before finally dropping a heartbreaking 7-6 defeat to the Cougars. Parkland's season comes to an end at (14-4-1) while Illinois Central (10-7-2) advances to take on #1 St. Louis (22-0) for the District title next Saturday in St. Louis. Both the Cougars and Archers have already qualified for Nationals to be held in Prescott, Arizona starting November 13.

With the wind blowing right to left, ICC had the wind at their back for the half and controlled the match outshooting PC 5-1 over the first 45 minutes but could not score.  The Cobras would have the best of the chances in the second half but they too, failed to convert.  Both teams had their opportunities in the two overtimes but again, strong stops by the keepers and missed chances doomed both squads.

In penalty kicks, ICC had the opportunity to kick first but the Cobras would match them score for score through the first six shots. After ICC went up 7-6, the Cougar keeper barely got this hand on the Cobras final attempt, but deflected the ball and the Cobra season came to a crashing end. It was ICC's second straight win on penalty kicks having defeated Lincoln 6-5 in the semi's.
