Pugh to the rescue as Cobras stun ICC in Men's Soccer to clinch M-WAC title

Johnny Pugh scored twice in the final minutes to help the Parkland Men's Soccer team to an unlikely 3-2 rally over Illinois Central College. The win, along with Lincoln College's loss to Heartland, earns the Cobras a 3rd straight Midwest Athletic Conference title.

Playing in windy and wet conditions, the Cobras appeared destined to lose as they trailed 2-0 with just under 8 minutes remaining before Pugh got the Cobras on the board as he drilled a free kick into the back of the net with 7:31 left.  Chen Levien would tie the match just three minutes later as he picked up a loose ball in front of the Cougars net and got the ball by the keeper for a 2-2 tie. Just 26 seconds later, Pugh would take a feed from Henrique Santiago and pick up the game winner as his shot eluded the ICC goal keeper. The Cobras were able to hold on over the final four minutes that saw some rough play which resulted in a player being ejected from both teams.

The win moves Parkland to (11-3 6-1) with a game tentatively scheduled against the UI Club Team this Wednesday.  Illinois Central drops to (7-7 and 4-3).  The Cobras have three matches left in the regular season including two big Region 24 matches at Heartland on October 14 and Southwestern Illinois on October 17.
