The #2 ranked Parkland Cobras volleyball team wrapped up play at the DMACC tournament today with another pair of wins on stellar all-around team play as they beat #4 Coffeyville 3-0 and D-1 Indian Hills 3-1.
In the first match, #2 Parkland faced #4 Coffeyville (KS). The Ravens brought in a 29-1 record (29 straight wins) against the Cobras 31-1 record, and while both teams battled early as two Top 5 teams should, PC found a rhythm towards the middle of the first set and kept rolling from there. Parkland def Coffeyville 25-15, 25-19, 25-18. Fia Willis led the charge with 14 kills and 10 digs. Alivia Dew had 10 kills and 3 blocks, and Eloise van Velthooven notched 8 kills and a team-high 16 digs. Gillian Jones had 5 blocks while Gabby Morrow had 5 kills and 4 blocks. Setter Leah Anderson had 36 assists and 9 digs.
In the second match, the Cobras faced D1 Indian Hills, the only team to have defeated PC last year (twice). PC had revenge on their minds and battled for the first set win at 25-23. Indian Hills hit their stride in the second set and tied the match 1-1 with a 25-18 win. But the Cobras settled and regrouped to take the match with convincing third and fourth set wins 25-17 and 25-20. Willis had a team-high 19 kills, 16 digs and 4 blocks. Dew scored with 9 kills, and Morrow had her best match of the season hitting .700 with 7 kills on 10 attempts and notching a team-high 7 blocks as well. Bailee Dunne had 21 digs, and Anderson recorded 37 assists in the match.
Parkland improves to 33-1 overall ahead of two matches at home on Wednesday night vs Millikin JV and Kankakee. The Kankakee match will feature sophomore night as the Cobras recognize the seven hard-working sophomores around 7pm.
