Cobra Volleyball heads back to Nationals for 10th straight

The second ranked Cobra Volleyball team traveled to Lincoln College Saturday afternoon for the NJCAA Region 24 District J finals. PC came in as the #1 seed in the region and had to defeat the #5 seed and host, Lincoln Lynx, for a return trip to Nationals. The Cobras swept the Lynx 25-16, 25-18, 25-20 as Coach Cliff Hastings is now a perfect 9 for 9 on trips to Nationals.

Fia Willis led the way with 12 kills, 12 digs, 5 blocks and 3 service aces. Eloise van Velthooven notched 8 kills and 8 digs, and Gabby Morrow had an outstanding match with 7 kills and 7 blocks. Leah Anderson had 31 assists and 5 kills, and Bailee Dunne had 11 digs.

The Cobras improve to 48-1 overall and most importantly advance to the NJCAA National Championships in Charleston, WV. The Cobras will learn their seed early this week and will have four matches to contend for a third straight National Championship November 16-19.  M-WAC and Region 24 rival Lincoln Land also advances to Nationals as they beat ICC in straight set 25-23, 25-18, and 26-24. The Cobras have defeated the Loggers for the title the last two seasons.

After the match, Fia Willis was named the Region 24 Player of the Year and was joined on the First-Team All-Region squad by Leah Anderson and Alivia Dew. Bailee Dunne and Eloise Van Velthooven both earned 2nd team recognition while Coach Cliff Hastings was named Coach of the Year.
