EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The No. 2 Parkland volleyball team secured the top seed in Region 24 for this year's postseason with a straight set sweep
(25-17, 25-20, 25-10) of Illinois Central on Wednesday night. Led by
Shelby Nunamaker's 10 kills and
Brooke Norder's 36 digs and five aces, the Cobras improved to 38-2 on the season.
Undefeated against Region 24 opponents this season, Parkland will be the top seed in their regional when postseason play begins on Wednesday, October 31. This weekend the Cobras can wrap up its 23
rd straight Mid-West Athletic Conference (M-WAC) title with a win over Lincoln Land on Saturday.
Averaging 15 kills per set, including 17 in the third set, the Parkland attack hit an efficient .293 against the Cougars off 38 assists from freshman setter
Rachel Verdun. Verdun spread the ball around between both her outside hitters and middles, as Nunamker recorded 10 kills on .471 hitting and outside hitter
Amanda Greening hit .615 on her way to eight kills.
Aiding the offense was a strong presence from the back row and service line from freshman libero
Brooke Norder. The freshman from Grand Rapids, Michigan set three-set season-high performances in both digs (36) and aces (5).
Up next, the Cobras will wrap up conference competition this weekend with the M-WAC Tournament will on Saturday, October 13. The Cobras will play three matches, beginning at 11 a.m. central time with Lincoln Land, followed by Lewis & Clark (1 p.m.) and John Wood (4 p.m.).
