CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 2 Parkland volleyball team won its 12
th and 13
th straight matches, a streak that dates back to October 6, with sweeps of Carl Sandburg
(25-18, 25-11, 25-16) and McHenry
(25-16, 25-23, 25-12) on Friday evening. The Cobras will carry a 49-2 record into Saturday's final two matches of the regular season.
Winners of 13 straight matches, the Cobras have not dropped a set during the winning streak which dates back to October 6. Overall this season, 44 of Parkland's 49 victories have been accomplished in straight sets.
On Friday, the Cobras totaled a combined .296 hitting percentage across the two victories with 14.2 kills per set, 3.3 blocks per set and 20 service aces. Individually,
Ryleigh Warfel recorded her 13
th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs against Carl Sandburg.

Facing a Carl Sandburg squad that is receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II rankings, the Cobras used a .315 hitting percentage off setter
Rachel Verdun's 30 assists to feed 41 kills between nine attackers for the straight-set win. With four hitters taking 10 or more swings,
Ryleigh Warfel led the team with eight kills while
Gabby Wessels and
Maddie Allen chipped in six each. On defense, the Cobras put the roof on 12 Carl Sandburg swings, including seven individual blocks from middle blocker
Maddie Allen. Freshman
Brooke Norder anchored the Parkland back row with 21 digs and added five points from the service line. The five aces are the third most for Norder this season, one behind her six aces at Des Moines on October 5.

Parkland again spread the ball around offensively in its second sweep of the evening, as five Cobras had five or more kills led by Warfel's 11. Middle blockers
Shelby Nunamaker and
Maddie Allen were the most efficient of the five, hitting .583 (8-1-12) and .571 (5-1-7), respectively. Setter
Rachel Verdun nearly missed her 17
th double-double of the season, tallying 35 assists and nine digs, while Nunamaker's six blocks and
Maggie Sorenson's 18 digs led the team defensively.
Up next, Parkland volleyball will wrap up the final two home matches and regular season matches of the 2018 season on Saturday, October 27. The Cobras will play East Central at 9 a.m. followed by Illinois Valley at 11 a.m.
Parkland's postseason will begin on Wednesday, October 31, in the District semifinal at home against either John Wood or Rend Lake at 6 p.m. central time. The winner will advance to the District Championship on November 3 at 2 p.m.
