Ina, Ill. – No. 18 Parkland women's basketball won its fifth straight match of the season with a 66-29 route of Rend Lake on Saturday. Leading the Cobras offense was
Crystal Mathis and
Emily Meinert with 15 points each.
Winning each of the four quarters, including a dominating 37-13 advantage in the second half, the Cobras led throughout beginning with a 17-5 first quarter. The Cobras shot 36% percent from the floor, knocked down five threes and dished out 18 assists. Defensively, Parkland totaled 48 rebounds and created 13 steals to keep Rend Lake off the scoreboard.
A season-high for Meinert, the freshman forward hit five of her nine shot attempts and added five points from the free throw line. The first-year Cobra also brought down seven rebounds.
Like Meinert, Mathis hit five shots from the field, including three from distance, and added in six rebounds and three assists.
In addition to the two leading scorers,
Gemma Recasens added in eight points while
Alex Specht and
Micah Tapscott each chipped in six more. Specht also brought down seven rebounds in the victory.
Up next, the Cobras will have two weeks off before returning on the court on December 1 at home against Triton. The game kicks off a three-game homestand with games on December 5 and December 8.
