WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. - The No. 15 Parkland men's basketball team won its season opener on Friday evening against North Arkansas by a score of 100-71.
Charles Campbell Jr. led the team with 19 points, while
Bruno Williams Jr. (16),
Ty'Ohn Trimble (14) and Yakeema Rose (12) also reached double figures.
The Cobras jumped out to an early lead and didn't relinquish it. After building a 30-6 lead early in the first half, North Arkansas made a comeback, cutting the lead down to 41-32. Both squads were in the bonus early as the two teams combined to commit 30 fouls in the first half, as the Cobras carried a 49-35 lead into the locker room after shooting 43-percent from the field and 56-percent from three-point range. The Cobras were also money from the charity strike, making 20 of 24 attempts.
Parkland started the second half in a similar fashion as to the first half, as the team pushed the lead back out to 20 points. The Cobras continued to add on to its lead, finishing with a 31-point victory. Using strong defense, forcing 27 turnovers overall, and continued success at the charity strike - 12 of 15 in the second half - to seal the win.
The Cobras will wrap up their opening weekend against Arkansas State Mid-South at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
