EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Parkland women's basketball fell to No. 11 Kirkwood, 67-47, in the semifinal round of the Illinois Central College Cougar Holiday Tournament on Saturday afternoon, and will play in Sunday's third place game at 2 p.m. central time. Falling to 9-4 on the season,
Olivia Babcock led the Cobras with 11 points, while
Micah Tapscott scored nine points grabbed nine rebounds.
After splitting its first two games of the tournament, Parkland will face North Iowa Area in the third place game after North Iowa Area fell to host Illinois Central, 84-77, in its semifinal game.
Parkland battled the 11
th ranked for the opening 20 minutes, sending the game into halftime tied at 23 after outscoring the Eagles by two points, 13-11, in the second quarter. However, a big second half by Kirkwood – outscoring Parkland by nine in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth – advanced the Eagles to Sunday's championship game.
Scoring in double figures for the second straight day, Babcock followed up her 12-point, six-assist performance in Friday's opening round with 11 more points on Saturday to go along with five rebounds.
Second on the team in scoring with nine points, Tapscott filled multiple columns on the stat sheet on Saturday with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. In addition to converting four of her eight field goal attempts, the sophomore forward was also active on the offensive glass with four of her nine boards creating second chances for the Cobras.
Freshman guard
Shoente'ra Russell finished third on the team with six points and second in rebounds with eight.
