TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 2 Parkland Cobras volleyball team stretched its season-opening winning streak to 13 victories with a pair of three-set sweeps on Saturday at the Owens Invite. With straight set wins over Grand Rapids (25-18, 25-17, 25-18) and Oakland (25-11, 25-9, 25-20), Parkland has won 39 of its 40 sets to open the season, including 38 straight set wins.
The Cobras opened day two of the Invite with a three straight set wins by seven or eight points. As a team, the Cobras hit .232 to go along with 11 service aces and five blocks. Leading the charge individually was freshman outside hitter
Ryleigh Warfel with her fifth double-double in her last six matches, tallying 12 kills and 13 digs. Also reaching double figures in kills was redshirt sophomore middle blocker
Shelby Nunamaker with an efficient 11 kills on 18 swings. Parkland was also aided by freshman
Gabby Wessels' performance behind the service line, as she served up six of the team's 11 aces.
Back in action in the afternoon against Oakland, 10 Cobras tallied a kill led by six a piece from
Ryleigh Warfel,
Gabby Wessels and Abby Burnett. Defensively, Parkland's block matched its season-best performance from Friday against Glen Oaks with 16 kills again on Saturday. Leading the stuffs was a season-high eight from freshman middle blocker
Dakota Harmon.
The Cobras will conclude the three-day competition on Sunday morning when they face Muskegon (MI) at 9 a.m. central time and Sinclair (OH) at 10:45 a.m.
