NORMAL, Ill. – Freshman
Naoto Uede scored two goals, one in each half, to lead the Parkland men's soccer team to a 3-0 shutout of Heartland on Tuesday night. With the victory, the Cobras improve to 5-1-1 on the season, while Heartland falls to 4-1.
Coming off its first loss of the season, the Cobras bounced back with its third shutout of the season, scoring twice in the first half and again late in the second half. With the three goals on Tuesday, Parkland is now tied for third most in Division I with 34, while the three shutouts is tied for 10
th nationally.
Now tied for the most goals on the team with seven, Uede netted his third multi-goal match of the season. With Parkland leading 1-0 late in the opening half, Uede scored an unassisted goal in the 42
nd minute to double the Cobra lead heading into the break. The freshman from Akashi, Japan then put the match on ice in the 87
th minute. Along with the seven goals, Uede's 17 points on the season ranks second on the team, and tied for 13
th in Division I, to
Yu Sasaki's 19 which ranks fifth in Division I.
Joining Uede in finding the net on Tuesday night was freshman forward
Ivai Warella, scoring the game-winner in the 28
th minute. The third goal of the season, Warella scored off an assist by sophomore
Jesus Reina.
In goal for his third shutout of the season,
Lorenzo Giaretti recorded the win behind six saves on 13 shot attempts from Heartland.
In total, Parkland outshot Hawks, 25-13, and put 13 of its 25 shots on frame.
