SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. – Parkland women's basketball led No. 20 South Suburban by as much as 10 points in the second half, but a late run by the Bulldogs downed the Cobras, 68-58. Three Cobras scored in double figures for the Cobras –
Micah Tapscott (12), Oliva Babcock (11) and Gemma Rescasens (11).
Trailing by five after the first quarter, the Cobras had their best quarter in the second period, outscoring South Suburban by 11 points (24-13). Leading by six points at halftime, the Cobras led by as much as 10 points in the third quarter but a 19-9, fourth-quarter run by the host Bulldogs was the difference.
Leading the Cobras was sophomore
Micah Tapscott with 12 points and nine rebounds, one rebound shy of her second double-double of the season.
Joining Tapscott in double figures were sophomore guards Babcock and Rescasens who both scored 11 points behind three three-pointers each. Additionally, the backcourt duo combined for 10 assists, five apiece, and Rescasens forced five Bulldog turnovers.
Just missing double-figure scoring,
Shoente'ra Russell tallied nine points, hitting two threes. Forwards
Emily Meinert and Madelyn Brower each added in six points.
Overall, the Cobras shot 36 percent from the field, including 37 percent from three, and grabbed 27 rebounds.
