CHAMPAIGN, IL – The Parkland Men's Soccer Team fell to 9-5-1 with a non-conference, double-overtime loss to #15 Lewis & Clark.
Naoto Uede (1 goal, 2 assists) played a role in each of Parkland's goals.
The Cobras started off strong, taking advantage of a brisk southerly breeze and producing two first-period goals. Naoto assisted on both, the first scored by
Harry Messitt (1 goal) and the second by
Jonathan Velasquez (1 goal).
In the second period, Lewis & Clark struck first. Parkland countered, when
Josef Halcomb (1 assist) sent a ball in from the end line to Naoto for a 3-1 lead. Lewis & Clark scored the final two goals of the period, the latter coming with 9 minutes remaining.
Neither side was able to score in the first overtime period, though each produced one shot. In the second overtime, Lewis and Clark forward Reshaun Walkes was able to carry the ball past the Cobra defense and slide a shot past the keeper for the winning goal.
Men's Soccer will next be at #19 Indian Hills. That match will take place on Tuesday, October 15
th, 4:00 pm, in Ottuma, IA.
