CHAMPAIGN, IL – No. 1 Parkland volleyball swept its final two matches of the Parkland North vs. South Challenge, winning in straight sets over #20 Sauk Valley CC (25-17, 25-15, 25-16) and Illinois Valley CC (25-9, 25-10, 25-13). The Cobras have now won 34 straight matches to improve to 51-1for the season.
In Match 1 (#20 Sauk Valley), the offense was driven by
Summerlyn Smith (20 assists) and
Rachel Verdun (15 assists, 12 digs) who primarily assisted teammates
Amanda Greening (15 kills), and
Ryleigh Warfel (13 kills, 14 digs, 5 blocks).
Brooke Norder (6 aces, 14 digs) added 6 service aces from the line. Verdun, Warfel, and Norder also highlighted the Cobras counter-attack with help from teammate
Paige Yoder (4 blocks).
In Match 2 (IVCC), defensive leaders included
Ryleigh Warfel (8 digs, 4 blocks, 9 kills),
Rachel Verdun (8 digs, 6 kills, 12 assists), Miranda Day (7 digs), and
Isabella Classen (7 digs). Strong at the net were Warfel and
Katie Kaiser (4 blocks). Offensive highlights included kill leaders Warfel, Verdun,
Abigail Burnett (5 kills) and
Brittney Litton (5 kills). Verdun led the team in assists, along with
Summerlyn Smith (7 assists).
