BELLVILLE, IL. –Parkland women's basketball improved to 3-0 with a 71-46 win over Southwestern Illinois College.
Emily Meinert (20 points, 17 rebounds) recorded her second double-double in as many games with career highs in both points scored and rebounds.
The Cobras started strong and doubled up on the Blue Storm 1
st quarter total. An even stronger 2
nd quarter was keyed by several offensive rebounds and subsequent second-chance points. The team ended with 57 total rebounds, led by Meinert,
Cassie Russo (9 rebounds, 12 points), and
Bree Trimble (8 rebounds). Several key defensive stops and transition points ultimately produced a 40-18 halftime lead.
After the break, some sloppy play, including 10 turnovers, allowed the Blue Storm to outscore the Cobras in the 3
rd period. In response, strong play from the post positions, with a combined 18-32 shooting from the field, stabilized the team late in the game. Additional offense, including Russo's 71% shooting from the field and
Ariana Booker's (12 points, 2 steals) 5-5 shooting from the stripe, helped to secure the final winning margin.
