Igniting Parkland's hot first half was a blazing start from guard
Charles Campbell Jr. The Chicago, Ill., freshman exploded for the Cobras' first 10 points of the first half – beginning with an alley-oop from
Ty'Ohn Trimble on the game's opening possession – and forced a Lincoln Land timeout 4:03 into the game after back-to-back threes.
Leading 10-3 out of the timeout, the Cobras never let the Loggers get closer than five points – 14-9 with 12:47 left – for the rest of the half. After back-to-back lay-ups from Jeffries pushed the advantage into double digits, 20-9, with 11:49 left, Parkland didn't let it dip below the 10-point mark for the rest of the half. Leading by as much as 19 late in the half, Parkland's final push of the half came with 3:39 remaining as the Cobras went on a 13-4 run highlighted by a pair of and-one layups from Jeffries.
Coming out of halftime, Lincoln Land stayed within striking distance for the opening five minutes of the second half with three consecutive shots from guard Benji Eaker. While Parkland's offense went cold in the early going of the half, the Cobras defense held the Loggers without a point for 4:51 midway through the half and added to their lead from the free throw line, making 15-of-21 attempts from the charity stripe.
Leading 62-44 after Lincoln Land ended its drought with 11:35 left in the game, Parkland methodically pushed the lead out to as large as 29 – 81-52 with 6:35 left in the game – and received at least one basket from all 12 Cobras. Freshman guard
Tommy Makabu led the second half scoring with six points.
Monday's game was played as a make-up of last Wednesday's and Thursday's cancellation of the previously scheduled game between Parkland and Lincoln Land.
