BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Five different Parkland men's soccer players got in the score column on Tuesday afternoon, as the Cobras improved to 2-0 on the season with a 5-1 victory over Southwestern Illinois.
Outscoring their opponents 10-1 in the early going this season, Parkland trailed briefly in Tuesdays contest after the hosts found the back of the net in the 16th minute. Trailing for the first time this season, Parkland responded with three goals before in a 15-minute span to take control entering halftime.
Yu Sasaki kicked in his third goal on the season in the 24th minute for the equalizer, and then set up teammate Joseph Halcomb seven minutes later for the game-winning tally. Following Halcomb's second score of 2019,
Jonathan Velasquez padded the lead in the 39th minute with his first goal of the season.
Holding a 3-1 advantage at the break, the Cobras added a fourth goal five minutes into the second half when Takumi Seo scored his first collegiate goal off Sasaki's second assist of the season. Classmate
Seungbong Song joined Seo with his first goal 10 minutes later off a pass from
Pablo Diaz for the final Parkland goal of the evening.
