LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Ranked No. 2 in NJCAA Division II, Parkland volleyball swept all four of its matches this weekend against Division I opponents, highlighted by a sweep of No. 1 Seward County and defending champion on Saturday and Southern Idaho on Friday. Rattling off four wins in two days, Cobras defeated Arizona Western (3-1) and College of Southern Idaho (3-1) on Friday before completing the weekend with wins over Seward County (3-1) and Southern Nevada (3-0) on Saturday to move to 24-1 on the season.
In the straight-set sweep of No. 1 Seward County, Parkland won the opening two sets by four and three points, respectively, before grinding out a 28-26 victory in the third set to earn the sweep. Leading the Parkland offense were outside hitters
Amanda Greening (13 kills) and
Ryleigh Warfel (12 kills) off a combined 42 assists from
Summerlyn Smith and
Rachel Verdun. On defense,
Ellie Stone posted a team-high 22 digs, while the Cobras front row stuffed Seward County seven times with
Paige Yoder and
Abigail Burnett each earning four blocks.
In the night cap, Parkland defeated Southern Nevada in four sets by winning sets one, three and four by a combined 10.7 points per set. Warfel and Greening again led the attack, this time Warfel edging Greening with the team lead with 16 kills to Greening's 15. Just shy of a double-double, Warfel added in nine digs, two blocks and three aces to contribute in all facets.
Brooke Norder led the back row with 15 digs, while middle blocker
Hannah Benson stuffed Southern Nevada eight times to lead a 10-block Parkland performance at the net.
Coming back from 1-0 deficits on Friday against a pair of Division I opponents,
Abigail Burnett,
Ryleigh Warfel and
Amanda Greening led the way with double-digit kill efforts in both victories. Burnett led the team with 32 kills – including a team-high 17 against Arizona Western – while Greening put away 28 attacks and Warfel added two double-doubles that accounted for 23 kills and 37 digs. Norder joined Warfel in the back row with 57 combined digs in the two victories, while
Paige Yoder reached double-figure kills with 11 against Arizona Western.
