Box Score 2 CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 1 Parkland volleyball won its first two games of the Parkland Volleyball Classic, winning in straight sets over Southwestern Illinois (25-10, 25-10, 25-23) and in four against Muskegon (25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 25-14). The Cobras have now won 13 straight to improve to 30-1 overall.
Parkland spread the ball around in game one on Friday, as the 15 assists by
Rachel Verdun and nine by
Summerlyn Smith were distributed across 11 attackers for a .305 hitting percentage.
Abigail Burnett and
Amanda Greening led the team with six kills each while
Paige Yoder added five of her own. Defensively, Parkland combined for six blocks, including a team-best three by
Katie Kaiser.
The Cobras returned with a second win in the night cap against Muskegon, winning sets three and four to break a 1-1 tie.
Ryleigh Warfel produced a double-double to lead the charge, pounding 19 kills while digging out 16 attacks to lead the team in both categories.
Amanda Greening joined Warfel with double-figure kills with 12, while
Summerlyn Smith and
Rachel Verdun combined for 41 assists. Middle blocker
Hannah Benson and Burnett kept the opposing attack with five and four blocks respectively.
Up next, Parkland will host Rock Valley at 9 a.m. central time and Rend Lake at 7 p.m. central time on Saturday.
