CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Parkland men's basketball (21-7) defeated Lincoln Land (4-27) for the second time in just five days. The 90-63 victory advances the Cobras to round two of the NJCAA Region 24 tournament.
The visiting Loggers came out looking to avenge a 45-point loss to Parkland the previous weekend. The Cobras trailed 9-17 with thirteen minutes remaining in the first half. Parkland then went on 14-5 run to take the lead, 23-22, with seven minutes on the clock. At the half, the Cobras held a 4-point lead, 37-33.
Joey Saracco (21 points, 10 rebounds) had 12 points and 5 rebounds at the break, and
Charles Campbell Jr. (13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) added 11 points.
In the second half, Parkland picked up its defense, holding Lincoln Land to 33% shooting. On the other end, the Cobras sank five 3-pointers on the way to 63% shooting for the period. Campbell Jr. and
Carter Jeffries (13 points, 4 assists) each had 13 points, and
Kelvin Swims (10 points, 12 rebounds) came off the bench to record his first double-double of the season.
Bruno Williams Jr. (9 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) led the team in assists.
With the win, Parkland advances and will travel to Quincy, Ill., to face the No. 2 seed, Danville Area CC, in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region 24 tournament on Saturday, March 7th, at 3:00 pm.
