Box Score 2 CHAMPAIGN. Ill., – The No. 3 Parkland College volleyball team took down two of the best volleyball teams in the country on Friday night, defeating No. 4 Sauk Valley Community College (25-23, 25-10, 25-21) and No. 14 McHenry County College (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) in their first two matches of the Parkland North vs. South Challenge.
Kat Blase had a phenomenal night, ending up with 21 kills and 8 blocks on the night.
The Cobras (46-3) were pushed to their limit in the first set of the night, when the fourth-ranked Skyhawks (31-2) threatened until the Cobras were able to pull away 25-23. Parkland finished off Sauk Valley in straight sets, handing the Skyhawks their second loss of the season.
Jayden Sortor had a strong performance, finishing with 11 kills and 2 blocks.
In their second match, the Cobras were more in control, defeating the McHenry County College Scots (18-9) again in straight sets thanks to 40 assists from freshman
Sophie Young and a big match from
Elle Schupbach (11 kills, 12 digs).
Up next, Parkland will welcome Carl Sandberg College and Lake Land College to Champaign tomorrow, October 23, for the Cobras final two matches of the Parkland North vs. South Challenge. Those matches are set to tip off at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, respectively.
