No. 5 Cobras Hang On At No. 10 Lincoln Land

Second win over a ranked opponent this season

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –No. 5 Parkland College Women's Basketball (9-0, 4-0 M-WAC) won a tightly contested, top-10 showdown, 70-67, at No. 10 Lincoln Land CC (7-3, 2-2).

An early 9-0 run produced an 11-2 lead for the Cobras, who led 15-8 after one quarter. In the second period, the Loggers used an 8-0 run to put Parkland down, 21-25. The Cobras then pushed back and were able to tie the game up, 27-27, by the break.

After the third quarter, Parkland clung to a 1-point advantage, 48-47, and the Cobras maintained a small lead throughout most of the fourth. With the score 64-61, the Loggers missed a potentially game-tying 3-point shot with just over a minute to play. In the remaining time, Parkland was 6-of-8 on free throws and withstood intense pressure from the home team to secure the road win.

Lincoln Land sits at number two in the nation in field goal percentage, and the Cobras defense limited them to 32% shooting for the game, which was their lowest of the season.

Shaelynn Bell (13 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks), who produced a double-double with career highs for both points and rebounds, led Parkland on the boards, while Mady Harper (11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals) and Peyton Crowe (7 points, 6 rebounds) combined for 12 more.

Naomi McDaniel (20 points, 3 rebounds) led the way in scoring. Bree Trimble (13 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) was the fourth Cobra to score in double figures.
