PEKIN, Ill. – Parkland College Softball (3-0) swept a doubleheader with Frontier CC (0-2), by the scores of 13-2 and 8-6, to start its season with a four-game winning streak.
"Our hitting was outstanding in game one, today, and our pitchers (Ramey and Kavanagh) combined for a one-hitter," noted Co-Head Coach
Dan Paulson.
In game one, all cylinders were firing early as the Cobras offense tallied 11 hits over 5 innings, scoring all thirteen runs in the first 3 innings. In game two, a 5-run fifth inning, highlighted by an
Isabel Shafer 3-run homer and an
Eden McAvoy 2-run homer, was key to earning the victory.
"The second game, we came out flat and had to play from behind, and then Izzy Shafer came up with that big go-ahead home run," added Paulson. "We learn a lot more about our team when the game is close, and the positive is, we battled and found a way. It was not necessarily the way we planned, but we, as a team, got the job done. I'm proud of our start to the season and excited to see our growth as we continue into the spring."
Up next, Parkland will participate in the Mount Mary University Collegiate Slugger Series in Peoria, Ill. The Cobras will play a doubleheader against Waubonsee CC in the dome at the Louisville Slugger Complex on Friday, March 5. Game times are 11:30 am and 1:15 pm.
