No. 5 Cobras Muzzle the Snappers

Harper shoots for season-high

CANTON, Ill. –No. 5 Parkland College Women's Basketball (11-0, 5-0 M-WAC) picked up a conference win on Sunday over Spoon River College (2-7, 1-3) by the final score of 71-50.

The Cobras came out cold, shooting 2-of-12 and making 10 turnovers in the first quarter. The result was a 10-point deficit, 7-17.

With improved ball-control, Parkland began to sink some key buckets, outscoring the Snappers, 23-8, in the second quarter. A huge part of the offensive surge was Mady Harper (23 points, 3 assists, 2 steals), who notched a career-high for points, nailing six 3-pointers, three of which were in the second frame.

After the break, as the defensive stops began to build, and with key rebounding from Naomi McDaniel (13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks) and Shaelynn Bell (4 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks), the Cobras began to take control of the game and led, 47-35, after three.

Parkland built on the lead in the fourth. With McDaniel leading the way, five Cobras had 2 or more steals, including Elly Haberkorn (5 rebounds, 2 steals) and Bree Trimble (3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals). This proved to be a season-high of 14 for Parkland. The Cobras also tied the season-high for blocks (7), and four Parkland players, including Peyton Crowe (3 rebounds, 3 assists), tallied 3 or more assists.

Ariana Booker (7 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) and Alexis German (7 points) each chipped in seven points for the visitors.

Up next, Parkland returns to Champaign, Ill., to host a top-7 clash with M-WAC rival No. 7 Illinois Central College on Thursday, March 4. Tip-off is scheduled at 5:00 pm.
