PEKIN, Ill. – Parkland College Softball (17-2) picked up two wins, 21-3 and 26-0, in a doubleheader with Kishwaukee College (0-8) in the Avanti's Dome.
Up next, the Parkland returns to Champaign, Ill., to host Sauk Valley CC for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 23. Game times are 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
Game 1: Parkland- 21, Kishwaukee- 1 (5 innings)
The Cobras knocked in 13 in the first inning, highlighted by home runs from
Summer Johnson (2-2, 1 HR, 5 RBI),
Reagan Cheely (2-3, 2 HR, 6 RBI) and
Kaylee Warren (2-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI).
Parkland added 5 runs in the second and 3 in the fourth en route to a 21-1 win.
Cheely added a grand slam in the second, as she and Johnson combined for 11 of the Cobras' 19 RBIs.
Eden McAvoy (1-2, 1 HR, 3 RBI) was part of a quartet who combined for 5 home runs, while
Emily Senjan (3-4, 1 RBI) and
Isabel Shafer (2-2, 1 RBI) were two of five Cobras with multiple hits.
Josie Birch (3-1) was the winning pitcher for Parkland. She allowed five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out three and allowing no walks in the shutout win.
Game 2: Parkland- 26, Kishwaukee- 0 (5 innings)
Parkland led, 6-0, after two innings and erupted for 14 runs in the third to put the game away. Six additional runs in the fourth completed the scoring.
Lizzy Davis (4-4, 2-2B, 2 RBI) and
Summer Johnson (3-4, 2 RBI) led the Cobras on offense, combining for 7 of Parkland's 22 hits.
The quintet of
Sydney Eichelberger (2-2, 3 RBI),
Madison Vogel (2-2, 1-2B, 2 RBI),
Aynsleigh DeFries (2-3, 1-2B, 2 RBI),
Isabel Shafer (2-3, 1 RBI), and
Casy Mandrell (2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI) each produced a pair of hits.
Mandrell,
Emily Senjan (1-1, 1 HR, 3 RBI), and
Reagan Cheely (1-2, 1 HR, 2 RBI) each had one home run and multiple RBIs.
Emily Senjan (4-1) was credited with the victory for Parkland. The righty allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking zero.
Madison Vogel (1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 SO) and
Reagan Cheely (1 IP, 1 BB, 1 SO) entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. The trio combined for the shutout.
