CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –No. 9 Parkland College Women's Basketball (15-3) was unable to replicate a February 25
th, 77-67, win over No. 3 Lake Land CC (18-2), falling by the score of 56-70 in the second meeting.
The top-10 teams played even out of the gate, with Parkland holding a 20-19 edge after one quarter of play. In the second period, the teams traded some small runs. Lake Land pulled ahead by eight, 22-30, but the Cobras reduced the margin to three, at 29-32. The Lakers surged again to a 29-37 lead, but Parkland had closed the gap to four, 34-38, by the halftime buzzer.
After the break, Lake Land scored the first eight points, taking its largest lead, 34-46. The Cobras ended the run, but the Lakers maintained the margin, holding a 13-point advantage, 45-58, after three quarters. In the fourth, Parkland was unable to put together a run or decrease the deficit.
Naomi McDaniel (12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals) produced her fifth double-double of the season, while
Mady Harper (13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block) led the Cobras in scoring.
Bree Trimble (12 points, 3 rebounds) matched McDaniel's offensive output and was the only other Cobra in double figures.
Parkland matched Lake Land's percentage from the field, at 46%, but shot 16 fewer times and made half as many threes. The Cobras outrebounded the Lakers, 33-25, with McDaniel and
Claire Wilhour (5 rebounds) leading the way.
Up next, the Cobras remain in Champaign, Ill., for their third straight top-20 matchup, hosting No. 15 Lincoln Land on Sunday, March 28. Tip-off is scheduled at 1:00 pm.
