CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Men's Basketball (13-6, 7-3 MWAC) finished the regular season with a 77-65 win over Lincoln Land CC (2-14, 0-10). The Cobras won seven of their final eight games, finishing one game out of first place in the MWAC conference, behind co-champions Spoon River and John Wood CC.
After the Cobras took a 7-2 lead, the visiting Loggers when on a 15-6 run to jump ahead, 17-13. Parkland pushed back, as the lead changed back-and-forth a few times, but the half ended with a 26-26 tie.
The Cobras started the second half on a 10-2 run, taking a 36-28 lead. Lincoln Land worked to reduce the deficit but still trailed, 62-54, with five minutes remaining. Parkland kept the pressure on at the end, eventually winning by twelve.
Kevin Bishop II (16 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block) led the Cobras in points and rebounds, as
Savon Wykle (13 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block, 2 steals) joined him scoring in double digits.
Kamari Kenemore (8 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists) and
Kelvin Swims (8 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals) combined for 11 of Parkland's 16 assists, while Swims and
Deonte Douglas each had 3 steals.
Lincoln Land outshot the Cobras, 46% to 40%, but Bishop II and
Jordan Burge (8 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block) led the Cobras in the paint as they outrebounded the Loggers, 42-26.
Up next, Parkland begins postseason play. The Region 24 quarter-finals are scheduled for Friday, April 2. Opponents and times are to be announced.
