CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 19 Parkland College Softball (23-2, 4-0 M-WAC) won its eighth in a row, remaining perfect in conference play, with two wins over visiting John Wood CC (7-9, 2-2).
In game one,
Anna Walker drove in all six runs in a 6-1 victory. In game two, the Cobras led from start to finish, ending the game after five innings with a 11-3 win.
Up next, Parkland remains in Champaign, Ill., for a non-conference doubleheader against Mineral Area College on Monday, March 29. Game times are 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
Game 1: No. 19 Parkland- 6, John Wood- 4 (7 innings)
John Wood took a 1-run lead on a double in the first, and Parkland didn't answer until the third, when
Anna Walker (2-4, 2B, 3B, 6 RBI) hit a 3-run triple.
The following inning, Walker cracked a double, this time scoring two, and she ended up at the plate as well, advancing on the throw. The Cobras were now up, 6-1.
The Blazers scored two in the fifth but could not overtake Parkland.
Walker drove in all six runs for the Cobras.
Lizzy Davis (2-3, 2B) also had a pair of hits, while
Taylor Dugger (1-3) and
Madison Vogel (1-3) each had one.
Chayse Ramey (11-0) took the win for Parkland. The righty went seven innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out eight.
Game 2: No. 19 Parkland- 11, John Wood- 3 (5 innings)
Parkland scored three in the first, sparked by a
Summer Johnson (2-3, 2-2B, RBI) double, and then in the second, an
Anna Walker (2-3, RBI) single put the Cobras up, 4-0.
In the fourth, John Wood scored three, closing to within one run. Parkland, in return, exploded for six of its own on an
Isabel Shafer (1-4, HR, 2 RBI) 2-run homer and singles by
Eden McAvoy (1-3, 2 RBI),
Casy Mandrell (2-3, RBI), and
Taylor Dugger (2-3, 2B, RBI). The Cobras now held a formidable, 10-3, lead.
In the fifth,
Emily Senjan (1-1, RBI) singled in
Reagan Cheely (3-4), ending the game after five innings.
Josie Birch (4-1) earned the victory for Parkland. The righthander allowed four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four.
