No. 15 Cobras Split First Two MWAC Games

Conclude 4-game series with Lewis & Clark tomorrow

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 15 Parkland College Baseball (10-6, 1-1 MWAC) lost its first conference game, 4-7, against Lewis & Clark CC (6-8, 3-3), and then came back to win the second one, 3-1.
 
Up next, the Cobras continue the 4-game series with Lewis & Clark CC, traveling to Godfrey, Ill., to play games 3 and 4 on Tuesday, March 30. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
 
 
Game 1: No. 15 Parkland- 4,  Lewis & Clark- 7  (9 innings) 
 
Parkland found itself down, 3-0, after three-and-a-half innings, after giving up the first 2 runs on 2 errors.
 
In the bottom half of the fourth, the Cobras pulled to within one, 2-3, when Austin Biehl (3-4, 2B, RBI) knocked in the first, with an RBI single, and Lewis and Clark committed a throwing error, allowing the second.
 
The Trailblazers extended their lead to 6-2 in the sixth as a result of a run-scoring single coupled with a Cobras throwing error.
 
Parkland scored its final two runs in the bottom half of the sixth on a Cole Evans (1 H, 2B, RBI) double and a Lewis & Clark wild pitch, but the deficit was still two, at 4-6.
 
The Trailblazers tacked on one in the eighth for the final margin.
 
Hogan McIntosh (2-4) and Brant Vanaman (2-4) each had two hits for the Cobras. Both teams produced 8 hits and 4 errors.
 
Kyle Brown (2-1) pitched six innings for Parkland and took the loss. He gave up 6 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, walking 3 and striking out 7. Tristan Cazel (2 IP, 1 ER, 3 SO) and Ari Gordon (1 IP, 1 SO) provided relief out of the bullpen.
 
 
 
Game 2: No. 15 Parkland- 3,  Lewis & Clark- 1  (7 innings) 
 
Each team scored one in the first. Parkland's run came when Austin Biehl (3-3, 2-2B) hit a double and then scored on a fielder's choice when Cole Evans grounded out.
 
David Ascencio (2-3, 2 RBI) knocked in the final two runs for the Cobras, one, on a double in the third, and the second, on a single in the fifth.
 
Parkland outhit Lewis & Clark, 6-3, as each team committed one error.
 
Matt Parenteau (3-0) earned the win for Parkland, pitching a complete seven innings. He gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits, striking out 13 and walking only 2.
