Strong First Half Propels Parkland Men’s Basketball Over ICC

24-point lead by halftime

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Men's Basketball (7-5, 3-2 M-WAC) returned to the win column with an 85-69 defeat of Illinois Central College (2-6, 1-4).
 
The Cobras raced out to a 22-4 lead just nine minutes into the game and expanded the margin to 24 points, 46-22, as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
 
Coming out of the break, the visitors looked like a different team. An 18-3 run by the Cougars reduced the deficit to nine, 49-40, less than eight minutes into the period. Parkland regained its composure, and from that point forward, slowly increased its lead to the final margin of sixteen.
 
Kelvin Swims (26 points, 6 assists, 3 steals) and Jordan Burge (18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists) paced the offense for the Cobras, with additional support form Savon Wykle (9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) and Sean Ealy (8 points).
 
Deonte Douglas (7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals) and Jamil Hardaway (5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals) led the way in rebounds, combining for twelve, while Kevin Bishop II (4 points, 5 rebounds) and Burge each added five.
 
Parkland shot 49% for the game and held the Cougars to 43%.  The Cobras were also better in steals, 13-2, and turnovers, 8-16. ICC, on the other hand, out-rebounded the Cobras, 37-32.
 
Up next, the Cobras host Rend Lake College in Champaign, Ill., on Tuesday, March 9. Tip-off is scheduled at 7:00 pm.
