HILLSBORO, Mo. – No. 6 Parkland College Baseball (2-0) won its first two games of the season over Jefferson College (3-6).
In game one, the Cobras trailed, 0-2, after six innings but came up with three runs in the seventh for the 3-2 win. In game two, Parkland never trailed, scoring 4 in the first and cruising from there to a final score of 16-4.
Up next, the Cobras return to Champaign, Ill., to play games three and four of the 4-game series with Jefferson College on Sunday, March 7. Game times are 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
Game 1: No. 6 Parkland 3, Jefferson 2 (7 innings)
The Cobras trailed most of the game, giving up a run in the 1st and another in the 5th.
Cole Evans sparked the comeback with a solo home run in the top of the seventh.
Jackson Blemler reached base on a Vikings error, and that was followed by a
Nicholas Fazzari walk.
Nick Gregory then singled, driving in Blemer for the tying run. Two batters later,
Hogan McIntosh drew a walk, driving in Fazzari for the game-winning run.
Charlie Hodges (4.0 IP, 1 R, 3 BB) started on the mound, allowing 2 hits and striking out 7.
Kyle Brown (1-0) pitched three innings, striking out 5 and picking up the win. He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks, and also gave up 1 run.
Game 2: No. 6 Parkland 16, Jefferson 4 (6 innings)
The Cobras offense was hot right out of the gate.
Cole Evans and Jackson Blemer each had singles with an RBI, and
Brant Vanaman had a triple with an RBI.
David Ascencio scored on an error, and Parkland was up 4-0.
In the span of the next five innings, the Cobras launched 5 home runs. Evans started things off in the second with a 2-run bomb.
Austin Biehl then hit one in the fourth inning and then an additional 3-run blast in the fifth. Ascensio added his own that same inning. In the sixth,
Nicholas Fazzari hit another one knocking in two baserunners.
Nick Gregory,
Tyler Grigalis, Evans, Fazzari, and Biehl all ended the game with 2 hits apiece.
Paxton Thompson (1-0) started on the mound and earned the win. He pitched 4 innings, giving up 2 hits, 2 walks, and 1 run while striking out 8.
Jay Schueler (2.0 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 5 SO) came in out of the bullpen in relief.
