QUINCY, Ill. – No. 19 Parkland College Baseball (21-8, 12-2 MWAC) took game three, 13-5, and game four, 19-6, winning all four in an MWAC series with John Wood CC (15-23, 5-11). A weather delay in game four forced its relocation to an area high school for its completion.
Up next, the Cobras will travel to Canton, Ill., on Wednesday, April 21, to play games 3 and 4 of an earlier postponed series with Spoon River College. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
Game 3: No. 19 Parkland- 13, John Wood- 5 (5 innings)
Parkland put up six in the first inning on a pair of 3-run home runs, the first by
Hogan McIntosh (2-3, HR, 3 RBI) and the second by
Nicholas Fazzari (2-3, HR, 3 RBI). After adding one run in the second,
Brant Vanaman (2-3, 2 RBI) hit and RBI-double in the third and the Cobras were up, 8-0.
The lead increased to 9-0 after four, and in the fifth, sparked by a Vanaman RBI-triple, Parkland added five more. The Blazers plated one in the bottom half, but that was it, and the game ended early.
Nick Gregory (3-4, 2 RBI) and
Austin Biehl (2-4) were additional Cobras with multiple hits in the game, while
Cole Jones (RBI) and
Cole Evans (RBI) each knocked in one runner. Parkland totaled 14 hits in the game and its pitchers allowed only 2.
Matt Parenteau (5-1) pitched four innings for the Cobras and picked up the win. He allowed a walk and struck out six.
Ari Gordon (2 H, 1 ER, 2 Ks) threw one inning in relief.
Game 4: No. 19 Parkland- 19, John Wood- 6 (6 innings)
Parkland scored six runs in the first inning on 4 walks, a Blazers error, and 2 hits, including a
Cole Evans (2-4, HR, 4 RBI) single that brought in two. John Wood scored two of its own in the bottom half, but the second inning produced six more runs for the Cobras on a
Brant Vanaman (1-1, 3 RBI) 2-run double, an Evans 2-run homer, and an
Austin Biehl 2-run single. A single run was added in the third, and Parkland led, 13-2.
After the rain delay, and the game's relocation,
Hogan McIntosh (3-3, 5 R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI) hit a fifth inning solo bomb. The Blazers tried to rally, scoring four in the bottom half to pull within eight. The Cobras struck right back with a 5-run sixth, highlighted by a
Jose Lara (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI) 2-run double.
Nick Gregory (2-4) added a pair of hits as Parkland outhit John Wood, 12-8.
Tyler Heidkamp (2 ER, 3 H, 4 Ks) started on the mound for the Cobras, throwing two innings.
Reece Rodabaugh (1-0) was credited with the win. He threw one inning striking out two.
Ben Catrambone (1 IP) and
Brandon Willoughby (2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 Ks) provided relief out of the bullpen.
