No. 10 Cobras Soccer Opens with Victory

Shuts out Indiana Wesleyan JV

MARION, Ind. – Parkland College Men's Soccer (1-0) kicked off its 2020-21 campaign with a 3-0 victory over the Indiana Wesleyan University JV squad.

"The whole coaching staff was extremely pleased with tonight's effort," expressed Head Coach Mark Sikora.  "Every player contributed to this hard-fought win."

The Cobras offense produced its first goal in the twenty-ninth minute when Exosse Kadiebue scored on an assist from Ata Marin. Kadiebue scored again just five minutes later, this time off a pass from Parker Theobald. At the half, Parkland was up 2-0.

In the second period, Brian Rico notched the third goal of the afternoon in the seventy-third minute off an assist from Luiz Faria, putting the match out of reach for the host Wildcats.

Defensively, Parkland's back line of Seungbong Song, Giuseppe Verracchia, Enrique Horna, Jack Winter, and Gage Smith, along with goalkeeper, Matteo Gigliozzi (3 saves), worked together to earn their first shutout of the season.

"It doesn't get much better than scoring goals, keeping a clean sheet (shutout) and playing the right way," added Sikora. "We are really looking forward to the next challenge."

Up next, the Cobras are in Champaign, Ill., to host the Lincoln College JV team for a 4:00 pm match on Thursday, April 8.
