CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 16 Parkland College Softball (26-3, 5-1 MWAC) split a two-game conference series with Lincoln Land CC (12-9, 5-1).
In game one, the Cobras trailed throughout, losing 2-6, as
Chayse Ramey suffered her first loss in 12 starts. In game two, the Cobras relied on a late-game grand slam and a walk-off single to come from behind and win, 7-6, in dramatic fashion.
Up next, Parkland travels to Dixon, Ill., to play a non-conference doubleheader against Sauk Valley CC on Monday, April 5. Game times are 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
Game 1: No. 16 Parkland- 2, Lincoln Land- 6 (7 innings)
Parkland gave up two runs in the first two innings, one, on an error, and the other, on a bases-loaded walk.
In the third,
Madison Vogel (1-2) scored on an error to bring the Cobras within one, at 1-2, but in the fifth, the Loggers scored four more to pull away, 6-1.
Reagan Cheely (2-3, HR, RBI) tried to spark a Parkland rally in the seventh, hitting a solo home run, but that was all the Cobras could manage.
Taylor Dugger (1-2) and
Lizzy Davis (1-3) each added one to Parkland's five hits, but the Loggers belted eight of their own. The Cobras also committed four errors in the game, compared to two for Lincoln Land.
Chayse Ramey (11-1) took the loss for Parkland. She lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out eight.
Game 2: No. 16 Parkland- 7, Lincoln Land- 6 (7 innings)
The Cobras gave up two in the first, and another one in the third, and trailed, 0-3, after three innings. In the fourth,
Summer Johnson (1-4, HR, RBI) hit a solo home run to get Parkland on the board.
Lincoln Land added one in the fifth and two in the sixth, taking a 6-1 lead. In the bottom half,
Lizzy Davis (2-4, 2 RBI) smacked a single, scoring
Reagan Cheely (2-4, 2B), and then, with the bases loaded,
Casy Mandrell (1-2, HR, 4 RBI) hit a grand slam to tie the game, 6-6.
The Parkland defense held in the top of the seventh, and in the bottom half, with two outs,
Sydney Eichelberger drew a walk. Davis followed up by smashing a single to right field, and Eichelberger crossed the plate, as the winning run, in dramatic fashion.
Lincoln Land outhit the Cobras 9-8, and Parkland committed the only error of the game.
Josie Birch (5-1) got the win for Parkland. She allowed nine hits and six runs over seven innings, striking out three.
