On to the Final Four for Parkland Women’s Basketball

Will face either Lake Land or USC Salkehatchie

HICKORY, N.C. – No. 6-seed Parkland Women's Basketball (19-3) won a low-scoring game in the Elite Eight of the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship, defeating No. 14-seed Union County College (NJ) (14-4) by the final score of 50-40.

With the win, Parkland will make its first Final Four appearance since the 2014-15 season, when current head coach, Allie Lindemann's father, Mike, was at the helm of the program. The Cobras will face the winner of the #2 Lake Land (22-2) vs. #10 USC Salkehatchie (SC) (19-0) game on Friday, April 23, at 7:00 pm ET (6:00 pm CT).

The teams traded baskets early on, though Parkland scored the final six points to take a 14-11 first quarter lead. In the second period, the Cobras built a brief 4-point lead, but Union County went on a 12-4 run to create its own 4-point lead, at 26-22. Parkland ended the run, and then, with seconds remaining on the clock, Mady Harper drove the length of the floor, making a buzzer-beating layup and tying the game at 26. Harper finished the first half with 7 points and 3 rebounds.

Early in the second half, both teams struggled to put together a substantial run, as it was again tied at 30 and 33. After three periods, the Cobras were up three, 37-34. With the Owls within one, at 39-38, Parkland ended the game on an 11-2 run.

Harper (12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals) led the offense for Parkland, with additional top performances from Naomi McDaniel (9 points, 8 rebounds) and Peyton Crowe (8 points, 6 rebounds). Additional contributors included Ariana Booker (5 points, 3 steals) and Kiersten Price-Wilson (4 points, 2 rebounds).

The Cobras defense limited Union County to 14 points on 21% shooting in the second half, also holding the Owls to 35 points below their season scoring average for the game. They were forced into 22 turnovers and were held to 9 offensive rebounds below their average.
