Cobras Softball Sweeps Doubleheader on Sophomore Day

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College Softball (45-6, 19-3 MWAC) picked up two wins, 13-0 and 20-1, over Lewis & Clark CC (1-27, 0-18).
 
Up next, the Cobras travel to Normal, Ill., for their final regular season doubleheader, and MWAC clash against Heartland CC on Saturday, May 1. Game times are 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
 
 
Game 1: Parkland- 13,  Lewis & Clark- 0  (5 innings) 
 
Parkland scored 4 in both the first and second innings and then added 3 in the third and 2 in the fourth, ending the game early.
 
Summer Johnson (2-2, 2B, HR, 6 RBI), who had a second-inning grand slam, and Sydney Eichelberger (2-4) each had a pair of hits for the Cobras, while Anna Walker (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI) and Taylor Dugger (1-2, 2 RBI) each had a pair of RBIs. Isabel Shafer (1-2, RBI) chipped in an RBI as well.
 
Chayse Ramey (22-2) led Parkland to victory in the pitcher's circle. She lasted two innings, allowing no hits or runs while striking out five and walking one. Josie Birch (3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB) threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen, combining with Ramey for the shutout.
 
 
Game 2: Parkland- 20,  Lewis & Clark- 1  (5 innings) 
 
Parkland led throughout, scoring 4 in the first, 7 in the second, 3 in the third, and 6 in the fourth. The Trailblazers hit a solo home run in the fifth, but it was not enough to extend the game.
 
Anna Walker (3-4, 2B, HR, 5 RBI) led the Cobras in hits and RBIs, as Reagan Cheely (2-2, 2 RBI), Taylor Dugger (2-3, 2B, RBI), and Isabel Shafer (2-3, 2-2B) each added a pair of hits.
 
Eden McAvoy (1-1, HR, 3 RBI) and Summer Johnson (1-1, HR, 2 RBI) each had a home run, while Ashley Lynch (1-1, 2B, 3 RBI) and Kaylee Warren (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI) contributed multiple RBIs.
 
Sydney Eichelberger (5-0) took the win for Parkland. She surrendered no runs on two hits over three innings, striking out one. Emily Senjan (3 H, 1 R, 1 K) threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
