No. 15 Cobras Men’s Soccer Scores Three Against Kankakee

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 15 Parkland Men's Soccer (4-2) picked up its second consecutive win on Wednesday afternoon, a 3-0 victory over Kankakee CC (1-4).

"Such great team spirit today, which was great to see considering the injury problems that we have right now," stated Head Coach Mark Sikora. "This could have been a "trap" game for us as we look ahead to a very difficult matchup this weekend, so I am pleased that the players stayed within our plan and took care of business."

It didn't take long for the Cobras to establish control of the match, scoring in the 3rd minute when Parker Thoebald (1G, 1A) took a pass from Exosse Kadiebue and shot it past the Cavaliers' keeper. Then, in the 36th minute, Jonathan Velasquez (2G) put Parkland up, 2-0, with an assist from Cameron Walker.

The Cobras defense held strong throughout the match, limiting Kankakee to only 2 shots, 1 on goal. Late in the match, in the 83rd minute, Velasquez notched his second goal, this time off the foot of Theobald, securing the win.

"It is always good to get goal production from your forwards and consistent play from all positions," continued Sikora, "but I was extremely impressed with the play of Parker Theobald, Seungbong Song, and, especially, Gage Smith who did all the right things today."

Parkland amassed 24 shots on the day, with 12 of them being on frame. Cobras keeper Matteo Gigliozzi made one save to preserve the clean sheet.

Up next, Parkland travels to St. Louis, Mo., to play St. Louis CC, on Saturday, May 1, at 2:00 pm.
