#4 Cobras Women’s Soccer Defeats #5 Lincoln Land

Advances to semifinals of Region 24 Tournament

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – #4-seed Parkland Women's Soccer (2-3-3) won its first postseason match, a 3-2 victory over #5-seed Lincoln Land CC (0-7-1).

"Playing a full game of soccer with no subs is a huge task, but when Maddy Wade went down with an injury at the 55-minute mark, we had to finish the game one player down," stated Interim Head Coach Dan Vogelsang.  "I am so pleased with how the team stepped up and finished the game strong.  Every player left everything out on the pitch, and I could not ask for anything more than that."

Just eight minutes into the match, Parkland's Maria Jorquera crossed a line drive into the box. The Lincoln Land keeper dove and deflected the ball, and Izzy Fritz powered it to the back of the net and put the Cobras up, 1-0.

In the 29th minute, the Loggers leveled the score, and it remained 1-1 until halftime.

Early in the second half the Cobras established control, as Fritz and Jamie Seibert scored unassisted goals in the 48th and 54th minutes. The 3-1 lead held until the 70th minute, when Lincoln Land pulled to within one.

Parkland keeper Michelle Miller made 4 saves as the Cobras defense held on for the one-goal victory.

"There was a lot of pressure on the defense today, and they stepped up to the challenge to preserve the win," added Vogelsang.  "I must give a shout out to Izzy Fritz for scoring two goals and then moving to the defensive line after Maddy went down.  I couldn't be more pleased with this team and how they have faced every challenge head on."

With the win, the Cobras will travel to Normal, Ill., for a Region 24 semifinal match against #1-seed Heartland CC on Friday, May 14, at 12:00 pm.
