CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 13 Parkland College Baseball (33-13, 23-7 MWAC) won games one and two against Heartland CC (31-20, 18-12) by the final scores of 10-6 and 8-4.
Up next, the Cobras will play their final regular-season doubleheader, against Heartland CC. Games three and four of the 4-game MWAC series will be in Normal, Ill., on Saturday, May 15. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
Game 1: #13 Parkland- 10, Heartland- 6 (9 innings)
Parkland trailed, 2-4, after six innings but took the lead for good with a 6-run seventh inning.
Austin Biehl started things off in the seventh with a single, and two walks, by
Hogan McIntosh and
Zyon Avery, loaded the bases. After a strike out and pop out,
Cole Jones (2-3, 2B, HR, 4 RBI) hit a grand slam, putting the Cobras up by two.
Parkland added two more, taking a 8-4 lead into the eighth. Each team scored two runs in the final two innings.
Tyler Grigalis (2-4, 2B, RBI) contributed a pair of hits for the Cobras, who were outhit by the Hawks, 8-10.
Kyle Brown (6-1) threw four innings and earned the win for Parkland. He allowed two earned runs on 3 hits and no walks while striking out nine.
Jack Snider (2 IP, 2 ER, 1 K) closed out the game for the Cobras.
Game 2: #13 Parkland- 8, Heartland- 4 (7 innings)
Parkland trailed 3-2 after four innings but scored 6 in the fifth to take control of the game.
In the fifth,
Nick Gregory (2-4) reached on an error and then scored on another error after
Zyon Avery hit a double. After a
Hogan McIntosh walk, a
Cole Jones sacrifice fly, and a
David Ascencio walk,
Jackson Blemler (1-2, 2 RBI) hit a bases-loaded, 2-run single. Immediately following Blemler,
Austin Biehl (2-4, 2 RBI) matched his 2-run single. The Cobras now led, 8-3.
Heartland managed one more run, but Parkland's defense held on for the victory.
Collin Salter (1-0) picked up the win for the Cobras. He pitched two innings, walking one and striking out three.
Reece Rodabaugh (1 IP, 2 H) closed out the game.
