OXFORD, Ala. –No. 8 seed Parkland Softball won two games and lost two games at the 2021 NJCAA DII Softball Championship, finishing among the top eight teams. Its final loss came to No. 4 seed Des Moines Area CC (52-13) by the final score of 1-3.
Parkland struck first against the Bears, in the top of the third inning, when
Reagan Cheely launched a solo shot over the left field fence.
In the bottom half of the same inning, Des Moines Area answered by loading the bases and then scoring on a walk and a 2-run double. The Cobras found themselves in a, 1-3, hole from which they could never escape.
Chayse Ramey (28-5) pitched six innings and took the loss for Parkland. She gave up three runs on three hits and seven walks while striking out six.
Parkland ends the season with an overall record of 53 wins and 9 losses. The Cobras won the Central A District Championship and returned to the national tournament for the first time since 2012. The program also won the MWAC Championship this season, going 20-4 against conference opponents.
