No. 11 Cobras Lose Final Regular Season Match

Look toward postseason

HILLSBORO, Mo. – No. 11 Parkland Men's Soccer (6-3) fell to No. 19 (DI) Jefferson College (6-2-1) by the final score of 0-2.

"I think the schedule caught up to us today, and playing our third away match in a week, all against top-20 opponents, was too much to overcome," expressed Head Coach Mark Sikora. "Hopefully these opponents will prepare us for the end of the year tournament which starts next week."

The match was evenly played through forty minutes, but Jefferson College scored two quick goals, in the 42nd and 44th minutes, creating an immediate uphill climb for Parkland. The Cobras pushed for goals of their own in the second half and created some quality chances, but in the end, they were unable to find the back of the net.

"All credit goes to Jefferson today as they were an extremely tough matchup," added Sikora. "We had great effort by our backline players (Seungbong Song, Giuseppe Verrecchia, Jack Winter, and Parker Theobald), as well as our goalkeeper (Matteo Gigliozzi). They gave us a fighting chance after an awful stretch at the end of the first half.  It just wasn't our day when it came to finding a goal.  We will take time to recover from this difficult stretch and give it our best efforts to bring home a regional title."

Up next, Parkland sets its site on the postseason tournament. Dates are May 14-15, May 17, and May 21. Locations, times, and opponents are TBA.
