JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The No. 17 Parkland College men's soccer team (1-0-1) defeated the NCAA DIII Blueboys of Illinois College (0-1-0) by the final score of 3-0.
The Cobras opened the scoring in the 11th minute when
Ben Martin scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from
Jonathan Velasquez. Immediately after the halftime break, in the 45th minute, Sandro Spielbüchler scored his first goal with an assist from
Daniel Djordjevic. Then, in the 66th minute, Velasquez took a pass from
Eikichi Saito and notched the third and final tally.
Parkland's three keepers,
Sebastian Staddon,
Frank Heck, and
Matteo Gigliozzi each took a third of the match in goal. Staddon saved the only shot on goal allowed by the Cobras' defense.
