Women’s Soccer Leads at Half but Loses to No. 8 St. Louis

Held 1-0 advantage until the 76th minute

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College women's soccer team had a strong first period but ultimately fell to No. 8 St. Louis CC by the final score of 1-2.

The Cobras (0-2-0) struck first, when Elise Hertling took a ball from Izzy Fritz in the 37th minute and put Parkland in the lead. The Archers (1-0-0) were held out of the net until the scoring two late goals, one in the 76th minute and the game-winner in the 83rd.

Defensive back Whitney Michanicou stepped into the goal and made 9 saves for the Cobras, as both of Parkland's keepers were unavailable for the match.

"I can't express how proud I am of this team," expressed Head Coach Dan Vogelsang.  "Facing the 8th-ranked team in the nation with both goalies out didn't even faze this team.  Whitney Michanicou stepped up big and made some key saves to keep us in the game.  This team is starting to find its identity, and I like what I am seeing!  I am excited to see the potential this team has."

Up next, Parkland travels to Normal, Ill., to play No. 4 Heartland CC on Wednesday, September 1, at 7:00 pm.
