Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College men's soccer team put together a strong team effort on Wednesday, October 12th as the Cobras defeated Lincoln Trail College 3-2 in an intense, rainy game. Freshman
Samuele Selva's 63rd-minute goal proved to be the game-winner as the Cobras get revenge over the Division I Statesmen, who won 3-0 when these teams met in Robinson back in September. Parkland outshot Lincoln Trail 22-5 and sophomore
Yamato Kline scored his team-high 11th goal in the win. The Cobras have now won four of their last six home games.
Â
Parkland College head coach
Mark Sikora felt encouraged by his team's performance on Wednesday, saying, "That was not the most complete game that we've put together this season, but the signs are pointing up. It's now a matter of continuing to grow and improve heading into the end of the season."
Â
The Cobras (7-7-2) struck early as
Eli Warren broke away for a quick, unassisted goal just three minutes into the game, but the Statesmen (6-6-1) equalized in the 10th minute and the score remained knotted at 1-1 at halftime. Parkland pulled back in front in the second half when
Eikichi Saito assisted
Yamato Kline in the 59th minute and the Cobras doubled their lead on an unassisted
Samuele Selva goal in the 63rd, the Italian's fourth of the season. The Statesmen did not go quietly, however, scoring a late goal to keep the pressure on, but it wasn't enough as Parkland closed out the 3-2 win.
