Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College men's soccer team scored two early goals and never looked back in a 4-2 home win over Illinois Valley Community College on Wednesday, October 5th. Freshman
Kyohei Kuroda scored twice, and freshman
Ryosuke Nakajima tallied two assists as the Cobras outshot the Eagles 10-3 on their way to the team's second win in a row.
"It was a very solid performance from the team today," Parkland head coach
Mark Sikora explained after the Cobras' second straight win. "Not perfect, but a lot to grow from as we enter October competition. The story today was about the energy level of
Samuele Selva and
Kyohei Kuroda. Their collective work rate led the team today and raised everyone's level."
Parkland took the lead when
Samuele Selva assisted
Kyohei Kuroda in the 20th minute and the Cobras (6-6-2) extended the lead to 2-0 just one minute later as
Yamato Kline set up
Saxon Shine's first goal of the season.
Kyohei Kuroda added to his total before the half was over, finding the back of the net off a
Ryosuke Nakajima assist in the 36th, but the Eagles (9-5) got one back before the break to make the score 3-1 at halftime. Illinois Valley looked like the more dangerous team early in the second half, scoring again in the 67th to draw within one, but Parkland pulled away late as Selva gave the Cobras an insurance goal in the 88th minute as his team came away with the 4-2 victory. Six different Parkland players registered a shot on goal in the win.
"It was nice to have all members finally available after a long three weeks so hopefully we can continue to move forward," Sikora said after the win on Wednesday.
