Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 16 Parkland College men's soccer team earned its third win of the season on Saturday, September 10th when the Cobras took down Southwestern Illinois College 4-1 in Champaign. Parkland took an early lead, but SWIC battled back to tie the game before halftime. It was all Parkland in the second half, however, as three different Cobras scored, and the team picked up an important win over its Region 24 rival. The Cobras have scored four or more goals in four straight games.
"We got great shifts from a fair amount of players like
Eli Warren,
Logan Woodward and
Chico Wilson," Parkland head coach
Mark Sikora relayed after the game. "Their work often goes unnoticed, but they helped us get over the top against a strong side. We are still learning how to win, and this was a really good day for us."
The Cobras (3-2-1) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when sophomore
Yamato Kline assisted freshman
Samuele Selva in the 7th minute, but the Blue Storm (4-4) equalized in the 41st to tie the game shortly before halftime. In the second half, Parkland kept pushing for a go-ahead goal that would finally come in the 62nd minute from the foot of freshman
Kyohei Kuroda. The Cobras were not done though, as sophomore
Eli Warren netted his third goal of the season in the 79th and
Ryosuke Nakajima provided some insurance in the 83rd minute to give Parkland a convincing 4-1 win on Saturday. Cobra goalkeeper
Frank Heck was credited with the win after tallying five saves in the win.
