CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 12 Parkland College women's basketball team closed out the PC Classic with a 106-34 win versus Shawnee Community College on Sunday, November 5. The Cobras (3-0) built a big lead in the first quarter and never let the Saints (0-2) back in the game, holding the visitors to 11-46 (24%) from the field. Sophomore forward
Alyssa Cole (19 points, 9 rebounds) led the Cobras in scoring, while freshman
Ella Gessner (9 points, 9 rebounds) provided a spark off the bench in the win.
"We're trying to get our bench ready to step up, and I think the bench did a good job," Parkland head coach Jean Demosthenes said after the game. "We still have a lot of work to do, but I think overall I'm satisfied with the bench."
"We stress in practice that we have to start fast," Demosthenes said of his team's big early leads this weekend. "We don't want to be a team that starts slow because I know, as we get into our season, we're going to play some teams that are as fast as us, so we emphasize that in practice every day."
