Parkland Men’s Soccer Ties Southwestern Illinois College 1-1

Freshman Shion Hayashki scores his first collegiate goal

Box Score BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The Parkland College men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw at Southwestern Illinois College on Saturday, August 26th, opening regional play with its first tie of the season. Freshman Shion Hayashi looked to score the game-winning goal for the Cobras (3-0-1) on an Immanuel Nwosu assist in the 76th minute, but the Blue Storm (1-1-1) leveled the game two minutes later. Sophomore goalkeeper Harry Gray made five saves to help keep the Cobras undefeated through four games.

"It was a big ask of the players to play back-to-back (days) in the conditions, but they survived day two and even had chances to walk out with a win," head coach Mark Sikora said after the draw. "I am extremely proud of their professionalism and not lowering their standards of play. It has been a difficult week - four matches, no losses, and beating two nationally ranked teams. Time for a break!" Sikora laughed.

Scoring Summary:
PARKLAND GOAL: 76th minute – Shion Hayashi (Assisted by Immanuel Nwosu)
SWIC GOAL: 78th minute

Up next, the Cobras welcome No. 14 Patrick & Henry Community College to Champaign on Thursday, August 31st. Kick-off against the Patriots (0-0) will be at 4:00 PM at the Parkland College Soccer Field.
