CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 7 Parkland College women's basketball team maintained its undefeated home record with a 71-49 win over Danville Area Community College on Wednesday, January 17. The Cobras (14-2) never trailed versus the Jaguars (11-6) as the team improved to 2-0 in conference play with the win. Sophomore
Luka Wouters came off the bench to lead the team with 8 assists, and sophomore
Alyssa Cole led all scorers with 21 points on 10-13 shooting. Parkland held DACC to 16-66 (24%) from the field and 3-18 (17%) from three in the win.

"This game was special," head coach Jean Demosthenes said after the win. "Last year, this team knocked us out of the postseason, so our returning sophomores took this game very seriously."

"This was a team effort," Demosthenes added. "They executed and did everything we asked them to do."

The Cobras controlled the opening minutes of the game, jumping out to an early 16-4 lead with 4:30 to go in the first quarter. The Jaguars responded with a 9-0 run, cutting the score to 16-13, but the Cobras still went into the second quarter with a 22-17 lead. The two defenses stepped up in the second quarter as Parkland regained a 10-point lead five minutes in, and the Cobras led 36-27 at halftime. Parkland kept its distance in the second half, building a 54-39 lead by the end of the third quarter, and the Cobras outscored the visitors 17-10 in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 71-49 win.
