Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland men's soccer team tied Heartland Community College 0-0 in the NJCAA DII Central District Final on Saturday, November 9th. The Cobras (8-6-4) outshot the Hawks (9-6-4) 9-5 in the match.
"This is an example of how cruel this game can be," Parkland head coach
Mark Sikora stated after the game. "We were very much the better team today, made the best scoring chances, just couldn't convert. When it goes to penalties, usually the advantage goes to the lesser team and that's what happened today. Their goalkeeper played very well and kept them in the game, and we left goals on the table."
Hidenori Akasaka recorded three shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Matteo Puli made five saves.
"I have nothing but pride for the effort put forth from Parkland today, especially defensively," Sikora concluded.
Up next, Parkland will await the National Tournament Seeding Announcements. The Cobras will hope to be awarded an at-large bid in the NJCAA DII National Tournament in Huntsville, Alabama, from November 17-23.
